Moochdocking for the Holidays: Family, Fields, and Frugal Living
With recent budget changes and a big drop in income, we decided to spend the holidays moochdocking. That’s the RV-world term for parking on family or friends’ property with permission to use their space and sometimes their utilities. It might not sound fancy, but it’s full of heart and it saves a lot of money.
Starlink Tips for Life on the Road: Making Space Internet Actually Work
When my wife and I hit the road full-time, Starlink became the lifeline that kept us working, gaming, uploading, and staying connected from the most remote places. Along the way, we learned a lot—what gear matters, how to avoid signal drops, and the simple habits that make space internet feel effortless. Here’s our honest rundown.
Fighting Condensation and Critters: Real Life in Our 2025 Rockwood
When we first moved into our 2025 Rockwood full-time, we thought the hardest part would be adjusting to the space. Turns out, it was moisture and critters. Both can sneak up fast when you’re living small, and both can make life a lot less comfortable if you ignore them.
We’ve spent the past few months testing solutions, learning what actually works, and sharing it along the way. Here’s what’s helped us keep our camper dry, warm, and pest-free.
Do you really need a 50-megapixel camera?
Megapixel wars seem to be all the rage these days. Between the Sony a7R IV, the Nikon Z 7 II and Canon EOS R5 (not to mention medium format options), high-megapixel cameras are certainly becoming more and more common on the market.
10 ways to protect your camera memory cards
Let’s talk memory cards. We have SD cards, CF cards, CFast cards and many options within those to choose from. We all have them, need them and use them. But what does it all mean? Let’s discuss taking care of our cards and preventing potential problems that can and will happen to all of us. Here are 10 practical tips.
Sourdough Discard Bread: Simple, Reliable, and Pain-Friendly
I’ve been keeping sourdough on and off since COVID, though I’ve been baking bread for more than twenty years. I rarely ever buy store-bought loaves anymore. When I joined the sourdough wave, it wasn’t to follow a trend. I was curious about flavor, texture, and what all the talk about “gluten transformation” really meant. It turned out that sourdough changed a lot more than my baking routine. I plan to create a sourdough series where I will share my go-to recipes I use on a regular basis.
Off-Grid Internet Setup: Bringing Our RV Online
When we hit the road, we didn’t just want adventure — we needed connection. Between gaming, creative uploads, and remote work, our RV became a mobile office powered by Starlink and a few DIY upgrades. Here’s how we turned unreliable campground Wi-Fi into high-speed off-grid freedom.
The photo setup: Commercial studio headshot
Here is a basic setup to achieve a commercial studio headshot. If you’ve never played with lights, it can be intimidating but once you just do it, you will find you have much more control and it’s not as scary as you imagine. This is a very basic setup with two lights. 1 Key light, 1 hair light and a white board for reflection.
The Healing Power of Hot Springs
Some seasons of life hit harder than others. Last year, mine collided all at once. Election season, the cruise that hurt me emotionally, work events including international travel, deadlines, and endless conversations. I kept going until I finally crashed. Not the kind of tired that a nap can fix, but the deep kind that leaves you hollow. The kind that makes even joy feel distant.
The New Snake Oil: How Digital Gurus Prey on Panic
The digital age has its own breed of snake oil. They no longer sell tonic from a wagon. Now they sell “financial freedom” from a phone. It’s been a troubling trend seeing more and more posts and videos claiming financial freedom. I couldn’t wait any longer on writing this.
SmugMug Review: Real Support in a World That’s Forgotten What That Means
Let’s start with what truly sets SmugMug apart: their customer service is phenomenal. In an era where chatbots and outsourced scripts have replaced real connection, SmugMug still believes in people helping people. Every time I’ve reached out, I’ve talked to an actual human who genuinely cares, and that’s not marketing fluff. It is a lost art, and it’s one of the biggest reasons I’ll always be loyal to them.
Five keys to being a great assistant
I’ve been an assistant to some of the most talented people, working on cool projects and helping at awesome workshops. I feel absolutely blessed. The key theme I heard from many that I was helping was that it was so hard to find a great assistant. And once they find a great assistant they hold on and create a stronger team and better pictures.
Finding Freedom with Harvest Hosts
Our maiden voyage confirmed it. This app is worth every penny. When we plan a trip, we rarely drive more than three hours or 300 miles in a day. That sweet spot keeps travel enjoyable and not exhausting. Harvest Hosts makes it easy to find safe, scenic overnight stays that do not break the budget.
The Power You Have As A Photographer
What kind of story are you telling as a photographer? Please watch the above video and share your thoughts below in the comments.
This experiment was recently posted and I wanted to create some dialogue and discuss how we can grow and learn. The pictures we create have the opportunity to share with the world amazing stories.
Our RV Must-Haves (The Real-World, Tried-and-Tested List)
When we started preparing to move into our RV, I went into full research mode. I watched countless YouTube videos, dove into Reddit threads, and joined several Facebook groups filled with people already living the RV life. Honestly, I had been following some of those groups for years before we ever made the leap.
We did it! Our New Chapter on Wheels
This summer, we traded square footage for freedom. We downsized our lives and moved into a 35-foot travel trailer with two dogs, two cats, and a growing sense of adventure. Don’t worry, you’ll meet the whole crew soon enough.
We’re easing into full-time RV living ahead of schedule. Once Pamela wraps up her term on the city council in December, the open road officially becomes home. For now, we’re getting used to life in a smaller space, testing what we truly need and what we definitely don’t. A few trial trips have already taught us plenty about living, packing, and keeping the coffee maker level.
